Compost pickup in Queens
Queens is the newest borough on the route, and it runs on the same terms as Brooklyn: $25 a bucket, a $75 minimum per pickup, weighed at your door and hauled to our community compost site at the Marine Park Golf Course in South Brooklyn.
The minimum matches Brooklyn’s rather than Manhattan’s because the drive does. A stop in Astoria or Long Island City costs the van about what the far end of Brooklyn costs it, and the Manhattan minimum is paying for the crossing rather than the distance.
Queens is a borough of kitchens, and most of what we expect to collect here is what comes out of one: a restaurant doing real prep, a bakery, a grocery, a commissary, an office pantry upstairs from any of them. Blocks open as the businesses on them add up to a van’s worth of buckets, so an address that is not on the route yet is still worth sending.
