NYC S.C.R.A.P.S. collects food scraps from small businesses in Brooklyn and Manhattan and takes them to a community compost site in South Brooklyn. It is run by Earth Stewards Enterprises LLC, and it exists because of the nonprofit that came first.
Earth Stewards NYC
Two organisations, one purpose, and a deliberate line between them.
Earth Stewards NYC is a nonprofit working on land stewardship in South Brooklyn. It runs hands-on environmental education in schools and community spaces, and it works through urban farming, composting, volunteerism and land restoration to turn vacant lots, private lawns and underused ground into something that feeds people.
It operates the community compost site your buckets go to. Every pound we collect is weighed at your door, hauled there, and turned into compost that goes back out to community and school gardens, street tree beds, and parks across the city.
The nonprofit also needs numbers: tonnage by neighborhood, participant counts, service dates. Those figures are what workforce development and education grants are won with, and they come straight out of the weights recorded on your stops. Your food scraps fund the programme twice over.

The partners
Two people, and the reason the hauling and the stewardship sit under one roof.
Jade founded Earth Stewards NYC and leads the stewardship and education work behind it, from the compost site through to the school and community garden programmes the finished compost supplies.
Her work is about redefining how urban land gets used: vacant lots, private lawns and underused ground turned into sources of nourishment and regeneration, through individual and collective action, policy advocacy, and getting people’s hands in the soil.
On the hauling side she is the operations end of the route: what the site can absorb, where the compost goes, and who it reaches.
Sam is a government affairs strategist and operator, recognised by City & State New York in its Tomorrow’s Leaders class of 2026 and spotlighted by the Association for a Better New York.
He founded Full Value Potential and works across public and private sectors on how policy, procurement and small business actually meet on the ground, which is most of what commercial organics collection in New York turns out to be.
On the hauling side he is the commercial end: pricing, customers, contracts, and the systems that make a one-van route legible enough to grow.
The name
Sustainable Circular Resource And Processing Systems
Circular is the operative word. A bucket goes out clean, comes back full, gets weighed, and what was in it comes back to the city as soil. About 20 lbs at a time, on a fixed route, at a price you can see before you call anyone.
